Ediclue

The Nordic energy market runs on EDIEL — EDIFACT messages flying between market actors as email attachments, in a format designed decades before JSON was born. If you’ve never had to acknowledge a UTILTS message with a properly formed APERAK, count yourself lucky. What it does

• Parse — convert EDI messages to JSON (and back), so the rest of your stack never has to know what a segment terminator is.
• Acknowledge — generate APERAK and CONTRL responses for incoming messages, without having to sell your firstborn.
• Communicate — fetch and send messages over IMAP and SMTP, since EDIEL traffic lives in mailboxes. One pipeline goes from inbox search query to parsed JSON to acknowledgment sent, in three chained commands.

Open source under MIT on GitHub — and with the forks to show other people in the industry had the same problem.

In hindsight this was the first real step into energy markets: Sun Eye looked at the sky, Ediclue talked to the grid’s paperwork, and skye.energy is where those threads ended up.
